What is The Rope Rescue Awareness / Operations Training?

Rope Rescue Awareness/Operations Is a 40-hour training that provides personnel with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to recognize, assess, and safely operate at incidents involving rope rescue systems and high-angle or steep-angle environments.

The course emphasizes scene size-up, hazard identification, personal protective equipment, rope rescue equipment, anchor systems, knots, belay systems, patient packaging, lowering and raising systems, and team communication.

At the Awareness level, participants learn to recognize rope rescue incidents, identify hazards, establish scene control, and support technical rescue teams without performing advanced rescue operations.

At the Operations level, participants develop hands-on skills to function as part of a rope rescue team under the direction of a rescue leader. Training may include equipment inspection, establishing anchors, belay operations, litter handling, rappelling/ascending techniques, and basic raising and lowering operations.

The goal is to enable responders to operate safely and effectively within their level of training while minimizing risk to rescuers and victims.
