What is The Rope Rescue Technician Training?
Rope Rescue Technician is a 40 hr training course that prepares emergency responders to perform advanced technical rope rescue operations in high-angle, steep-angle, vertical, and difficult-to-access environments. Participants develop the knowledge, judgment, and hands-on skills required to safely construct, operate, and manage complex rope rescue systems.
Training typically includes advanced anchor systems, mechanical advantage and lowering systems, belay systems, highlines and offsets, rope systems and hardware, knots and rigging, rappelling and ascending, patient packaging and litter operations, edge management, and raising/lowering rescuers and patients.
Technicians are trained to assess complex rescue problems, select appropriate systems, perform technical rigging, operate rescue equipment, and function as part of a coordinated technical rescue team. Emphasis is placed on system safety, redundancy, equipment inspection, effective communication, risk management, and adherence to applicable training standards and incident command procedures.
The goal of Rope Rescue Technician training is to provide responders with the advanced capabilities necessary to safely and effectively resolve technical rope rescue incidents while protecting rescuers, patients, and other personnel.
